How to Apply Rhetoric for College Level Courses?
I have taken Engl 1101 last year, and I heard about Rhetoric, but I don't think I have used rhetoric knowingly. I looked in the internet and found some stuff, but I was confuse about it. This week we had reading for rhetoric, and that helped a lot to understand the terms. I have also did some digging in the internet, and found that it is very important. I think by the end of the class, I will be able to figure it out all these different terms:pathos, ethos, and logos. Pathos is related to emotions of the person who is reading the essay. Ethos is related to the trust of the writer. And logos is related to the logic that author used in the essay. I think they are all equally important on writing. When it comes to college essay, I think rhetoric is most. When I write an essay, I have to use all these part of rhetoric. I have to catch the emotion, values of the readers. I have to make them comfortable so I could get their attention. I have to build a trust with them, I have to make sure they can trust me on this matter. Anyone can write four pages of essay, but it has to be logical. The essay should provide some logical supports, it has to give the reason on that topic. I hope I will be able to dig more into rhetoric, and hopefully I will be able to write some good papers.

From Sender to Receiver Directly
We all know that FedEx is one of the best shipping companies, and
they deliver all over the world. They are little expensive than other companies,
but they are fast, reliable, and available everywhere. Last week when I was at
FedEx office, I saw this advertisement, and I found it very interesting. I
forgot to take the pic that time because I did not know I had to write a blog
on advertisement, but I found this one in the internet. In this advertisement,
the person who is sending the item is directly handing the product to receiver’s
hand. It is going through FedEx shipping box. FedEx is trying to say that there is
no one in the middle; you will get the product as the sender put it in your hand.
This advertisement has different hidden meanings. The product that is being
delivered is a flower vessel, and it is very fragile. Fragile product needed to
be packed nicely. The person who is receiving the vessel is a woman, and woman
are very interested on flowers and decoration. We can even see the bond between
the sender and the receiver; it is a gift. FedEx has done a great job on this advertisement.
It touches customer’s heart by showing very fragile product being delivered, and
the person gets it without scratch. I think it worked best way to convince
people that FedEx will take care of the shipping without any problem. Who does
not want to have their product as someone directly bring to their hands, and
this advertisement is giving the exact message.

Laila and the Wolf
I love listening to stories. I specially love stories about Angels, ferries, and supernatural creatures. When I was a kid, my grandmother used to tell me this story. This story is very famous in Arab countries. The story is about the small and very beautiful girl Laila. Laila used to live with her mother in the village. One day her mother asked her to take some food to her grandmother who used to live in the middle of the forest. Laila had a very pretty voice, and she loved singing. On her way to grandmother's house, she met a wolf. Wolf was asking her many questions, what is your name? Where are you going?, but she did not talk that much, and just said, I am going to meet my grandmother. Wolf was very curious to know what was in the basket that Laila was carrying. Laila said nothing special in the basket, just some food for her grandmother. Wolf went to the grandmother's house before Laila, and he made the same voice as Laila and entered the house. Wolf swallowed grandmother and put on her clothes. Later, Laila came to the grandmother's house, and she found out that she was not her grandmother, but instead a wolf. She ran away and found a hunter. Hunter killed the wolf and saved her grandmother.
I have heard this story more than 100 times when I was a kid, but I loved it every single time. I loved the way my grandmother used to tell the story with expressions. This story is very meaningful to me because I don't have my grandmother anymore with me, but I still have her memories. She used to tell me to be strong. She used to tell me that I have to be strong like Laila because Laila was not scared of wolf, and she rescued her grandmother. As long as I remember my grandmother, I remember this story too.

No one kills the black boy
"Dinosaurs
in the Hood" is a very funny poem by Danez Smith. The poem is
about different movies, and the dinosaurs. The reason behind picking
this poem is that I like movies, and I have watched almost all the
movies that Smith have mentioned in this poem. I chose the title No
One Kills the Black Boy because that black boy is the main
character of this poem. Smith wants to put the scene on every movies
where the black boy is playing, and there are dinosaurs.
He
starts the poem by mentioning the movies Jurassic park, Friday, and
The Pursuit of Happyness. I have watched all these movies; Friday,
The Pursuit of Happyness has a story of black people. He says that
those movies should have a scene where a little black boy is playing
with a toy dinosaur on a bus, and he sees T. Rex outside the windows.
He says don't let Quentin Tarantino to direct this movie because it
has to be very different than the one he makes. Some of the famous
movies by Tarantino are Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill. In this movie, Smith
wants the boy to play with guns, and remember his father's picture.
He thinks that most of the black kids have gun as a toy. But later he
decides to not put any of those scenes, and just give Brontosaurus or
Triceratop to that boy. And this is just a reminder of a Santa or God
that they still exits. He does not want any resist things on this
movie. He says lets not have any stereo type scene on this movie. He
does not want Wayans brothers in this movie. He does not want Will
Smith or Sofia Vergara either. He wants this movie to be about the
local folks, children of slaves, immigrants. He just want an old grandma shooting raptors with the gun they hid under the mattress. He
wants a black kid to get the blooded neck of the dinosaur.
He
wants black casts in the movie, but he insist that this can not be
the black movie. He does not want this movie to be a metaphor for
black people and extinction. He does not want any racial involvement
in this movie. He does not want to show any black pain or struggles
that black people face. He does not want to show any slavery. He says
that if no one can say N word in the public then no body can use the
N word in this movie, and it has to be completely out of the racism.
He does not want any cheap jokes, specially chicken jokes in the
movie. He says that no body dies in the movie, specially the black
boy. He says three times that 'no one kills the black boy'. He wants
to make this first scene because he wants to show the black boy with
the dinosaurs. He wants to show to the public the dreams, endless
possibilities that black boy has.
When
I started reading this poem, I found it very funny. This poem is not
only funny, but also very emotional. Poet Smith has done a great job
writing this poem. Through this poem he wants to show that black kids
do not deserve guns as toys, they should also play with the
dinosaurs.
